1972 saw the birth of pong and gaming, the past 42 years has seen 8 generations of video game console with advancements and hurdles at every corner, but this infographic leaves a burning question in my gut: Has hardware advancement’s in the video gaming industry Come to a Crawl?
You may call me a retro gamer here, but if hardware advancements end up with games that are designed to either get money from us at every turn or provide very little quality gameplay then let’s go back to the old days – when Sonic and Mario ruled. Let’s face it when you think back to the childhood game that you played the most what was it? How long did you play it each day? How amazing was the gameplay compared to modern-day video games?

Missed the Atari 2600 in 77, one of the biggest consoles of all time, a console that created the interchangeable cartridge market. The Atari 400 and 800 where computers, not consoles.

Also this really should have been longer and involved more of the consoles on the market, as it is it’s a bit short.

I think you should make this a lot longer and more full featured. Include the first real console war, between the 2600, Intellivision and Colecovision. Make the other generations more comprehensive, include the 5200 and 7800, the Turbografx, Jaguar, NeoGeo, 3DO, Cd-I, etc etc.

Hi Jordan,
Unfortunatly as just one person Jordan my time is limited at current, rest assured I am on the look out for gaming talent to collaborate with us on some articles. The purpose of this infographic was meant to be to highlight some evolutions in gaming through 1972 – 2014.
If I listed every single console that was ever released including handheld as well, the infographic would be far to big to embed on any web page including my own, taking far to long to load. I had to draw the line somewhere, sometimes its better to split things up into several features rather then cram it all into one.
I already have other ideas for an infographic that will touch on many of your points above, its just a case of finding the time.

what about the brown box in 1967
[•The
first video game
console debuted as a bulky rectangular brown wooden box with two attached
controllers, and the name of “Brown
Box”. Invented by Ralph H. Baer (1922 – ),
also known as “The Father of Video Games”, he developed the brown
video game console such that it can be hooked up with any TV sets. There were
only six simple games for the console, named ping-pong, tennis, handball,
volleyball, chase games and a light-gun game.]
