concentrate-at-work-better We all know what its like trying to concentrate at work sometimes, check out these top tips for boosting your productivity at work.

You know what it’s like at work. During the mid-afternoon lull in productivity, your mind starts to wander, and you can’t help but go on Facebook. Or you might read the latest news on your favorite sports team.

It’s no secret that the Internet gives us an escape from reality when we’re bored at work. Trouble is; our employers don’t pay us to spend time on non-work activities. Do you have trouble staying focused at work? Has your boss told you off about your web browsing activities during work hours?

Don’t worry, you’re not alone! It’s actually a common problem these days. To help you combat those boredom blues, here are some top tips to help you stay dedicated to the task at hand:

Fight technology with technology

Most people who get bored at work will partake in a spot of covert web browsing. It is by far the easiest way to stimulate one’s brain and stop yourself from falling asleep on the job! Of course, it’s not the best thing to do when you’re paid to do a job. Especially if that job is mission-critical.

There will doubtless be certain websites you frequent on a regular basis. Does your company’s IT department scrutinize people’s web access logs? If so, they may take care of the problem for you by starting to block websites they know aren’t work-related.

But what happens if you have free reign on the World Wide Web? You could always self-censor your access to certain websites! Most computer firewalls let you set access restrictions for websites. For example, you could allow yourself Facebook access only during your lunch break.

There are plenty of software solutions that you can install which let you limit access to websites at specific times. So, if your firewall software doesn’t have the capability, a standalone application can help.

Walking

Go for a walk

Do you reach a point in your day where you just can’t be bothered to do any more work? If so, stepping outside of the office for a few minutes can help! Assuming the weather is OK outside, I recommend going for a brisk five or ten minute walk to get some fresh air.

Sometimes we need a change of scenery to help us focus on our tasks for the day.

Prioritize your tasks

Before you start your day it’s always worth making a list of the day’s tasks. That way, you can tackle the high priority items first and work your way through the list. Some people find that rewarding themselves after completing a major task helps to increase motivation.

If you work in an office, I would recommend a non-food related reward. The last thing you want to do is put on weight from eating excessive amounts of candy!

Get another job

Sometimes it’s the job you do that is the reason you have no motivation or energy in your day. If that’s the case, it might be time to consider looking for another job elsewhere.
