Gaming

The video game world has exploded with the new consoles and growth on Steam’s userbase, pushing developers to make bigger worlds and more creative experiences. As the landscape grows, game developers will become more prepared to sink millions into new IP and genres, in the hope of huge success.

We take a look at the top 10 video games to look out for this year, all coming to PC alongside some other platforms.

Destiny

destinyPotentially the most expensive video game ever made, Bungie and Activision want the next Halo/Call of Duty franchise to be Destiny and Activision is preparing to invest hundreds of millions to make this a reality.

Destiny is a first person shared world shooter, where people can free roam apocalyptic Earth, infested with various Alien factions fighting for control of the barren wasteland, while the humans make their final stands on the fledging planet.

Even though information on the title is slim, shooting appears to be like Halo with a visual upgrade and the open-world idea seems a lot like Borderlands meets any MMO, offering quests and lots of fighting to be done in groups.

Batman: Arkham Knight

batman-arkham-knightVideo games based on TV shows or movies always had some flaws, mostly because the development studio wasn’t funded enough and basically made shovelware. Batman: Arkham stands out as one of the only series to step away from this stereotype, with Rocksteady Studios developing some really impressive titles.

Batman: Arkham Knight is the next title from the studio and it will be their last, meaning Arkham Knight has even more hype surrounding it. We have seen previews of what will go down in this title, but so far no gameplay videos have been uploaded.

Scarecrow will be the main super-villain in the game, uniting Batman’s enemies together in order to finally end the Dark Knight. The Batmobile will be available to drive in this game, allowing Batman to get around Arkham quicker.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

dragon-age-inquisitionDragon Age fans are getting excited for the third game in the series, set to be the biggest game made by BioWare. The developers have been hinting at a much larger world, four playable races and tons more content for players to sink their teeth into.

The series has always had a loyal fanbase behind it, willing to support the next game and any DLC. BioWare has created worlds and quests players have fallen in love with and we are sure they will disappoint this year.

For anyone unaware, Dragon Age: Inquisition will be an open world action role-playing game. It will have a new protagonist and will be set after the events of Dragon Age II.

Tom Clancy: The Division

tom-clancy-the-divisionThis is a really exciting game coming from Ubisoft later this year, Tom Clancy: The Division is an open shared world in a post-apocalyptic setting. A disease spread throughout the US and now a team, called The Division, is trying to find survivors and keep the peace.

The design of the world looks incredibly well structured, built on New York, it looks very realistic and Ubisoft has added lots of features to the engine to make it more alive, including lighting, seasons, movement affects and reflection, something they have carried on to Watch Dogs.

We are not sure what the business model will be for Tom Clancy: The Division, whether it will be an MMO shooter with a monthly payment or a one-time payment into an already fleshed out world, where quests and challenges with friends await.

Evolve

evolveThis year is big for MOBAs, League of Legends is as popular as ever, DoTA 2 is getting more fans across the globe, Blizzard has announced Heroes of the Storm and the genre is getting more relevant in the PC world.

Evolve is a different take on a tactical MOBA, instead of 5 v 5 with three lanes or 3 v 3, the game plays 4 v 1. The team of four are called Hunters and each have a role to play, medic, assault, support and trapper. The player on the other side is the monster, a beast that continually gets stronger as the game progresses.

The idea of the game is to kill the monster before he becomes overwhelmingly powerful. Evolve plays on the idea of each player in the team working together to make an effective team and if one person screws up it could be the end of the game.

This is definitely one of the most fun and unique experiences coming in this year and will be available on PC in Autumn.

Project Spark

project-sparkThe interesting thing about Project Spark is what it takes from other games. Minecraft really opened up the whole “build anything” experience, but Project Spark is about more than just building, its about creating experiences through actions.

Randomly generated events and terrain have been staples of the rogue-like games for the past two decades, but Project Spark takes a different approach, making sure every action has a reaction and this reaction creates whole new experiences.

The team has been building this game for hugely interactive and live experiences, with no script or path-A or path-B gameplay, just simply building, growing and eventually fighting against randomly generated ideas.

Telltale Games: Game of Thrones

game-of-thrones-telltaleTelltale Games have so much credibility now as one of the best storytelling video game developers in the industry, with The Waking Dead almost surpassing the TV show in terms of love for the characters and The Wolf Among Us giving one of the best adaptations of a popular book, it will be hard for the team to keep up with the hype.

This is even more true with Game of Thrones, Telltale Games next five part series. The game will reportedly follow different people in the world of Westeros and Essos and Telltale will adapt the story to fit a new line of drama, not alongside the Game of Thrones on TV now.

Watch Dogs

watch-dogsThis may be one of the most talked about games of 2013, but Watch Dogs hit big delays forcing it back to May this year. The game will finally be available in just under two weeks and we suspect it will be one of the biggest sellers on PC and console.

Aiden Pierce, the anti-hero in the game, will be thrown into a world where he controls all of the connections, but will he use his power for good or evil? That’s all up to the player, in this new next generation experience.

Watch Dogs has been worked on for quite some time now, we hope Ubisoft are able to pull of a milestone in terms of game mechanics and storyline.
