If you are new to gaming and are looking for some tips to get you started, then you have come to the right place.

Whether you want to game as a hobby or are hoping to one day game as a career, remember, everyone was a gaming newbie once. It takes time and experience to build up gaming skills, so if you aren’t the best gamer to begin with, don’t worry. Just remember that the more you practice, the better you will get.

To help you adjust to the gaming world, we have put together four handy tips below:

Don’t get addicted

It might sound like an odd tip, but take it from us, getting addicted to gaming is all too easy. Regardless of how much you enjoy gaming, remember that real life always needs to come first. Don’t be late or work or late to meet your partner because you were gaming – no matter where you are in the game, if you need to go, you need to go.

The best way to avoid getting addicted is to give yourself a certain period each day when you are allowed to play. For example, you could say that from five o’clock to six o’clock is your gaming time, which means that as soon as six o’clock comes around you know you need to stop gaming.

Research before buying

Presuming you don’t already have a console or computer, make sure to do a lot of research before you make any kind of gaming investment.

Don’t choose a console because your friends say it’s the best one, do your own research into what you get. Each gaming system, from the PS4 to a computer, has a different feel to it and can run different kinds of games.

Before purchasing a gaming console or computer, make sure to test it out beforehand to get a feel for it. It is also important to look at the type of games that are made for you chosen console – each console tends to have different type of games.

Give each game a chance

It’s far too easy to try a game, be bad at it and decide that you don’t like it. Don’t just try a game once and decide it’s not for you, spend some time trying out each game before making a decision on them.

For example, if you are playing a racing game on Playberry but are struggling with it, don’t instantly decide that you don’t like it. Instead, keep practicing and give it some time. Most new gamers think they don’t like a game because they aren’t very good at it, but if they practice and give the game more of a chance, they end up being surprised.

Remember, gaming is meant to be fun

If, after a while, you aren’t having fun using a certain console or playing a certain game it might be time to move onto something else. When you stop enjoying playing a game, gaming then becomes a chore, which is not something you want.

If you aren’t enjoying something, don’t be scared to move onto something new. As a new gamer, the most important thing you can do is try out new things and develop your skills. Swap between different games and consoles as much as possible, so that you can hone and develop your skills. And most importantly, have fun.
