The same question has raged on for years, which OS should you use? Apples or Windows? We settled the debate Hardware News

When it comes to computer aided design and art, it wasn’t that long ago that Macs reigned supreme. When it came to processing power, graphics, software and operating system, they won hands down. These days, anyone can put together good quality video and edit artwork on a PC using Windows. Things have changed for the better, but there are still many loyal Mac users who would be lost without their Apple products. So why is it Apple has managed to get this firm hold on people?

Back in the day, Macs were just considered so much more stable on a network. This was kind of essential when it came to graphics, video editing or artwork. If one crashed, it could hold up everybody else in the chain. These artists needed maximum stability and some serious software to push the limits of memory and processing power. These days, Macs and Air books seem to be the choice of those using professional or high-end software for music, art and video editing.

Some of the appeal could have been down to the widgets that made the various Macs run like apps run on the mobile devices we all use today. A lot of the appeal was probably to do with Adobe not launching their software on Windows but only on Apple’s systems at first. Yes, Macs are more stable and yes they are pretty cool, but oh my word aren’t they expensive!

And so we come to the crux of it. Apple products are very expensive. Windows devices have always been considerably cheaper. Even today, people select Windows for the price, before the pleasure of the OS. Also, anybody can fix a PC, or it can be replaced reasonably cheaply. You need to find someone a little more specialised when it comes to repairing a Mac, like a South London Mac repair store or a city centre Apple store.

Is there any chance you could change your flavour from Mac to PC, or is it a case of ‘once you’ve taken a gigabyte from the Apple you never go back’? It’s down to personal taste, and once in a while, Microsoft do launch a very effective version of Windows (remember XP when it launched?). It’s often too close to call, and price will always be a factor. For gaming purposes, you are more likely to buy a PC with Windows than an Airbook, but most of us prefer online games to PC format anyway. If we’re serious gamers we have several consoles stuck under the TV, and rarely pull the laptop out.

Now most of our Social Media is so easy to access on a mobile device, Windows for PC could become obsolete, and so could a Macbook. Well, it’s a possibility, but whether it happens or not depends on what each side choose to bring out next. The convenience of a keyboard is great, but beyond work, not many of us use them much anymore. At the end of the day, it’s down to us to decide how we want to communicate, how we want to game and how we want to create. The choice is yours!
