Nvidia has upgraded the GTX 960 RAM to 4GB with some of the top computer hardware companies. Hardware News

Early this year, Nvidia’s GTX 960 2GB was just released at a hefty price of no more than $200, and was proved to be a solid GPU. But as always, it needed a bit of tweaking to up its performance. Just recently EVGA, MSI and ASUS, three of the world’s top computer hardware companies announced that a 4GB version is now in development and probably will be out in March 2015.

Looking back at its predecessor, the GTX 960 2G already performs well considering its price range at only $200. More importantly, it already outperforms other GPUs like AMD’s r9 280 and 280x that are around $300.

Now that it’s looking for a boost on its RAM to 4GB, expect it to be more powerful but at a price. Hopefully it won’t hit to $300 but considering the speed and performance it offers it is possible, but there are predictions that it will be $250.

What We Can Expect

Aside from its memory being upped at 4GB, the clock speeds also were somewhat modified. While the 2GB version of GTX 960 has a core clock of 1126 base and 1178 boost clocks, this new version is said to be at 1241 MHz base and up to 1304 boost clocks. For a factory overclocked GPU, it’s already an awesome number for the non-overclockers out there.

While only a few were mentioned about the new GTX 960 4GB version, it would likely have the same specifications as the reference 2GB GTX 960 variants with 1024 CUDA cores, 32 ROP units, and 64 texture units. It will also likely be operating at 128-bit memory bus. Also, the card will only be having a single SLI goldfinger, which could only mean a maximum of 2-Way SLI configuration.

Food For Thoughts

While Nvidia has its upgrades and new technologies surfacing, the GTX 960 may not be the best card out there but if you’re looking for bang-for-the-buck GPU’s, it’s definitely on top of the list. With all the new upgrades going out, I could only hope that AMD is planning to make a move on their own. It seems like they’re falling behind on some of Nvidia’s press releases like the one with their new GTX Titan X. Not that I care about AMD, but I care about its effect on the market.
