This is no joke, Apple might be expanding from mobile devices and apps into the world of vehicles! It wouldn’t be just iPhones and iPads that we look forward to in the future, but probably iCars as well.
Several hundred Apple employees are already secretly working on this electric vehicle. Its initial design was said to resemble a minivan, not the hot-looking car type most are expecting.
The project is said to be in development at a secret Silicon Valley location, whilst hiring the head of Mercedes-Benz’s Silicon Valley R&D lab as reported by Financial Times. This doesn’t actually mean or prove that Apple is developing a car, this merely suggests it. But with all the reports and rumors that have been spreading like wildfire, somehow it strongly suggests it to be car.
Apple Making a Car Is Not Ridiculous
Do they have what it takes? Well of course they do. With Apple already recruited some specialists, all they need are car experts; and in all honesty, it’s not that hard for Apple to accomplish and find some.
Developing a car (not to mention manufacturing them) would be a huge step for Apple, and that is why people are a bit skeptical. Alternatively, it is quite possible that Apple may be working on something else like self-driving technology, some advanced street-map device, or even improving their current CarPlay. Whatever they may be developing in that lab, it surely involves an automotive.
With questions that can’t be answered, let us take a few current instances that had happened and see what it leads us to:
- LinkedIn shows forty-six current Apple employees who were formerly at Tesla. Rumors also states that the company is offering up to $250,000 and a 60% raise whoever agrees to cross over.
- Reports stating that Apple is hiring automotive engineers and other staff with expertise in cars.
- Apple board member Mickey Drexler previously stated “Steve Jobs, if he had lived, was gonna design an iCar … I think what cars need is someone with a vision on design.” Now that Marc Newson, the famous designer from Ford is now at Apple, that resource is now available.
- Apple has the money and more to take on the project. Assuming it fails, it’s not a huge loss for Apple.
Somehow it all adds up for the Project Titan to be a car, but without any official statement, it could be anything else. But whatever it is that involves several hundred employees, car experts and of course Apple technology, I bet it’s going to be something huge.
