With the growing industry of virtual reality, Valve has joined Sony, Oculus and Samsung in providing us a VR experience of their own called SteamVR. This coming GDC (Game Developers Conference) expected on early March, Valve announced they will be giving demos for a previously unannounced SteamVR hardware system together with the refined Steam Controller and new living room devices.
“Steam is bringing the best games and user-generated content to exciting new destinations. At GDC 2015, we’ll be giving demos of the refined Steam Controller, new living room devices, and a previously unannounced SteamVR hardware system.
With the introduction of SteamVR hardware, Valve is actively seeking VR content creators. Are you a developer or publisher interested in experiencing the new SteamVR hardware? We’ll be giving scheduled VR demos during the week of GDC, March 4th-6th, 2015, at Moscone Center in San Francisco.”

Valve is not new to the VR Industry. In 2012, it was already widely known that Valve was focused on creating its own VR system for some time. In fact it already provides support for Oculus Rift in the Steam client. That being said, whatever Valve is planning on its upcoming demo on GDC, I’m almost sure it’s going to hit it big.
Valve VR Headset Prototype
Back in 2014, photos of the prototype were released, and we have a Reddit user Jonomf to thank for. In those days, the said VR headset was not about to be released as they wanted to fully understand the medium to provide its interested buyers a better experience.
In a statement between Valve and the developer’s involved in the demo, they have a Dota 2 VR experience. Dota 2 is, it is an acronym for Defense of the Ancients, a popular MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game. Back to the virtual reality experience, they have mentioned that a life-sized Dota 2 VR experience will let you enjoy hanging out in a lane watching the heroes battle it out. I play Dota 2 and by just imagining the experience they had, I feel a hard-hitting envy in me, and I know any Dota 2 player would.
When Will The SteamVR Be Release?
No other details was mentioned about its release aside from the demo presentation this coming GDC. I guess all we can do is wait for the result and future announcement of its actual release. When that day comes, I’m pretty sure Valve and its customers would be very pleased.
