Features Of Windows 10 VS Previous Windows Versions

Windows 10 is not only an update of Windows 8, but also a brand new OS. There are many new features that are being introduced into the Technical Preview, as well as some older features being redone. I will go over them and give a quick idea of how each new feature is improving.

Here are many of the new features that Windows 10 Technical Preview has:

  • Action Center And A New Start Menu – The Windows action center and Start menu are much improved over Windows 8 implementations, because you can perform a majority of your critical action from them.
Whether by right-clicking on the Start menu to bring up a variety of command tools, or by using both of the tools directly to find applications and use them.
  • Battery Saver, Data Sense, And Universal Apps – Microsoft is working to merge all the Windows experiences together, and they now have added many functions so that laptop (and desktop) users can have many power-saving, data-saving, and unified applications. This in the hopes that users will be able to seamlessly switch from mobile to desktop without a hitch.
  • Command Line, File Explorer, And Snap Improvements – All of the interfaces have improved dramatically, leading to faster PC response times, better file browsing, and better management of on-screen windows.
  • Multiple Desktops – Microsoft has finally implemented the ability to have more than one desktop into Windows, which means more things can be done at once, and that you will be able to have many things open at once without losing screen space. This is a feature Linux and Mac OS has had for a long time, and is great to see Microsoft finally realizing how good of a feature multiple desktops can be!
  • Windows Feedback – One the most interesting new developments of Windows 10 Technical Preview is that Microsoft has built-in a support tool directly into the OS; therefore if you need help, you can get it. It remains to be seen whether this becomes useful or not, but it may become a great way to get help with PC issues!
  • Peer-To-Peer Updating – Peer-to-Peer updating is using the PCs in your area that have the newest update of (in our case) Windows 10 to update from, instead of directly from Microsoft. This is somewhat cool, but if hackers can use this to gain access to a system, it may not be bad news on your behalf.
  • built-in Cortana And Search Bar – Cortana, after Build 9926, is built-in to Windows 10. If you are not aware, Cortana is a Microsoft designed search engine. While this is somewhat convenient for search uses, it can be very annoying as well, especially if you accidentally type into the Bing search bar instead of the file explorer bar.

Those are the major Windows 10 features that have been included in Windows 10 Technical Preview so far, and they all look very interesting and seem to improve the OS usability. Hopefully Microsoft will continue adding useful new features in the upcoming versions of the Tech Preview. But for now, lets look at some gaming performance with DirectX 12!
